Abstract

The lived experiences, analogies, literacy works, as well as pedagogical ideas of Eugenio María de Hostos and Paulo Freire are examined. The ideas of these two impressive figures in educational philosophy are compared and contrasted. The comparison includes the roles of education, how both school and teaching are defined, teacher‘s and student‘s roles, teaching methods and techniques, curriculum issues, subject matter and class size are also discussed. Evidence which sustains how both the Hostos and Freire were men educational activism and change, who made important contributions in their time is also presented.
