Abstract

This study examines teacher candidates‘ perspectives regarding the effectiveness of the Teacher Preparation Program of the College of Education, University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. It uses a quantitative methodology with a descriptive-exploratory design. A total of 133 students answered a questionnaire that collected information regarding the students‘ profile and perspectives of the program effectiveness. The development of the questionnaire followed a rigorous process, guided by a multidisciplinary committee constituted by faculty specialized in different fields, students, and two external consultants from Boston College, to warrant the validity of the inferences. In general terms, students indicated that the program goals are met as they are prepared adequately to work as teachers. The results reveal program strengths and areas that need improvement.
