Abstract
Choosing a university degree is a very important decision in the life of an individual. This article presents a study conducted with 373 new students of undergraduate level to identify the aspects they consider when choosing their university career, as well as the information resources and strategies they use for decision making. The data was collected through a questionnaire. The results highlight, among other things, that students are determined of the profession they wish to practice and feel that they obtained the information they needed for decision making, with institutional Web pages being the main source of that information. The results of this study can help institutions of higher education to identify appropriate strategies for the dissemination of information, as well as to evaluate the orientation process and, finally, to analyze the requirements of admission to their academic programs.
