Abstract

The "Conditions of Schools" (24 items: six dimensions) instrument measures school internal conditions and their change potential. This article examines the validity and reliability of this scale, translated into Spanish. Its internal structure, using exploratory factor analysis with Promax rotation (validity evidence), and its internal consistency (reliability) were studied (n = 2191). Results produced three factors (60.04% of the total variance), that represent possible tendencies which underline a one factorial solution, evidenced by high factors‘ correlation and high overall internal consistency (Alpha=0.94). Factors were conceptualized and named: 'collegial academic leadership‘ (43.45 %), 'collaborative and reflexive planning‘ (11.66 %) and 'participation of service beneficiaries‘ (4.91 %). The instrument can be used to evaluate and research school change processes, both as a total scale to examine the school general change potential, as well as to study the identified dimensions separately.
