Abstract
The discussion about the socio-historical construction of the concept of "race" is an issue that is still analyzed by anthropologists and historians. Likewise, the study of racial perception has remained as an approach for researchers in the field of education at times when it is of interest to promote the implementation of inclusive teaching models in schools. Therefore, this article first focuses in presenting the socio-historical and scientific background that has laid the foundation of racism toward the black image in the last centuries. It also outlines some relevant researchs that have considered the racial perception of children, adolescents and adults in Puerto Rico and other countries. Finally, after reviewing some particular studies, the discussion aims at presenting some multicultural teaching models and their implications for multiethnic teaching spaces, as is the case of Puerto Rican schools.
