Abstract

There is a problem in achieving the relevance of curricula to the requirements of the emerging society in the XXI century and the processes of accountability. For this reason, we conducted a study based on literature review to analyze the development of leadership programs in higher education, their content and offerings. In addition, we identified the implications of this development for course design in educational leadership preparation programs. To do this, we analyzed 36 documents, which were compared against five master‘s programs in several universities to carry out a descriptive process on the trends in this field. This allowed the examination of their relevance in a systematic way. As a result, we found that there is consistency toward the development of competencies to practice distributive leadership, which involves changes in traditional leadership programs.
