Abstract
This article is based on the general administrative and organizational changes generated by Law 18 of 1993 and the paradigmatic changes of the last decade, as well as the educational leadership standards established by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE, 2002). A relationship between these changes and the strategic leadership of school principals is established.
The concept of strategic leadership is defined and the specific standards of this area of educational leadership are introduced. Emphasis is given to ethical and professional leadership, as well as management and evaluation of information that school principals must execute to effectively respond to their school contexts and the communities they serve.
