Abstract

This article explores the historic void in textbooks in regard to the Puerto Rican migration to the island of St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, and the role this migration plays in the political and economic development of Vieques and Culebra. The authors emphasize on Puerto Rico‘s geographical location as a link to create consciousness on the notion of an integrated Caribbean region. Taking this approach into consideration, the authors present a series of thematic units that facilitate teaching a historical discourse while stressing the geographical component. The thematic units are based on primary and secondary sources applied within an educational and technological context.
