Abstract

This article discusses the experiences of a research network that involves eight institutions in the State of New Leon, Mexico. It presents the benefits and challenges of creating and operating such a network within a single institution or colleagues of different institutions. The network is placed within a context of communities of practice in terms of purposes and stages of development and operation. In addition, suggestions are given for avoiding, or at least anticipating and planning in order to deal more effectively with possible pitfalls that may occur as the network defines itself and stabilizes.
