Resumen
La ideación y la conducta suicida cada vez se presenta con mayor frecuencia en los/as estudiantes universitarios que buscan ayuda en los centros universitarios de consejería. El suicidio en los/as estudiantes universitarios es uno de los fenómenos más difíciles de comprender ya que se trata de una etapa de la vida que por lo general se caracteriza por ser una etapa de mucha ilusión y planificación hacia el futuro. Este artículo pretende examinar la literatura sobre la conducta e ideación suicida en estudiantes universitarios de la última década. Se presentarán datos sobre la prevalencia tanto a nivel local como nacional así como factores de riesgo asociados al suicidio. Se concluirá con una discusión breve sobre el tratamiento y manejo, y recomendaciones sobre la prevención del suicidio en estudiantes universitarios.
