Resumen

El estudio  descriptivo transversal explora  aspectos relacionadas a  salud mental y resiliencia en 44 jóvenes identificados como gays, lesbianas y bisexuales (GLB). Se administró un cuestionario y se realizaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas. Aproximadamente uno de cada tres jóvenes encuestados mostró pensamientos de suicidarse. El 18.2% de todos los jóvenes GLB llevaron a cabo intentos de suicidio, lo cual representó casi la mitad de los que expresaron ideas suicidas. Los jóvenes encuestados con pensamientos suicidas registraron una puntuación promedio significativamente menor en las escalas de salud mental y vitalidad, pero una puntuación mayor en la escala de  percepción de estigma. El 75% de los jóvenes GLB encuestados exhibió altos niveles de auto estima y resiliencia. Estos hallazgos dan cuenta de la complejidad inherente a aceptarse como persona gay, lesbiana o bisexual, toda vez que la persona quiere expresar su sí mismo, aun con los costes sociales que acarrea e implica.
