Abstract
This articles presents the concept of teaching status, with dimensions, categories and items that intervene in the pedagogy of Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) and in its growth, impulse and evolution towards higher quality levels. A new concept in the field of applied linguistics for the teaching of foreign languages, which seeks to define the set of factors that determine the development of this industry. It is an integral synthesis of the doctoral thesis, focused on the education of Spanish for foreigners (ELE). It includes a description of the creativity and research process carried out, the results of the study of reports on the situation of Spanish for foreigners in three Spanish-speaking countries and the consultation of sixty-nine Spanish language specialists, from different countries and professional fields, who contributed with their qualified opinion to support this theoretical proposal.
