Abstract

The presence of the State in the Brazilian electricity sector significantly increased during the 1970s, achieving a hegemonic participation over a short time. The prolonged difficulties encountered in the impunding of resources in the national and international markets culminated in exhausting the state model, bringing about the implantation of a new model supported by an ambitious program of privatization. The struggle for strictly corporate finalities of the newly formed companies and the potential effects caused by the attention to consumers motivated this research, which seeks to verify if the new model has improved service conditions for domestic electricity consumers.
