Resumen

La crisis del covid-19 ha tenido un fuerte impacto sobre los emprendimientos a nivel mundial. Este estudio exploratorio analiza los efectos en una economía con una tasa de actividad empresarial especialmente reducida, Puerto Rico, a partir de los datos del Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). El impacto aquí ha sido muy pronunciado, tanto en los indicadores de nueva actividad empresarial, como en los de cierre de negocios. De igual forma, las nuevas iniciativas responden a un crecimiento en la identificación de oportunidades, pero también a la caída en los ingresos de los hogares. Las conclusiones apuntan hacia temas que son necesarios abordar en futuras investigaciones, para entender si estos cambios son solo coyunturales y el efecto de medidas de política pública específicas.
