Abstract

With a thirty years difference (1966-1996), Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa produced two versions of an approximation to his compatriot José María Arguedas‘ Los ríos profundos. The re-writing of "Ensoñación y magia" in La utopía arcaica is another testimony of Vargas Llosa‘s political and ideological evolution, his 1971 break with Castroism, as well as his adherence to a liberal stream of thinking following Karl Popper.
