Abstract
In his lecture "Conferencia-recital del Romancero gitano", Federico García Lorca stated:"I wanted to merge the narrative and the lyrical without hindering the quality of the 'romance', and I think that I have attained my purpose in some of the poems of the Romancero , like the one titled 'Romance sonámbulo', which conveys a line of narrative and an acute sense of drama; yet no one understands what is happening, least of all myself, because in poetry, mystery baffles not only the reader, but its own author". Why and how Lorca creates the mystery that veils his poetry are the questions that guide my essay and that I will try to answer by a close reading of the "Romance sonámbulo", the search of the multiple sources of its mystery and comparative readings of the poem. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
