Abstract
Social anxiety is a mental disorder that causes an intense and irrational fear when the person is exposed to social gatherings or when he/ she is performing in public activities in front of strangers. It occurs when the young person is between 15 to 20 years old, which coincides with the age of most young people entering college. Interpersonal relationships are essential for college students to perform well in their academic work. Young people with social anxiety should receive professional care so they can understand the condition, manage their symptoms and eventually overcome them. Cognitive behavioral therapy has proven to be effective in helping the students who have this disorder. Treating social anxiety will contribute to strengthening student retention and allowing our youth achieve their goals.
