Abstract

This article describes the essential role university faculty may have in helping students affected by traumatic events. University faculty are in a unique position to identify and refer to psychological treatment those students at risk for anxiety disorders (AD) or acute stress post traumatic (PTSD) due to exposure trauma exposure. Early and appropriate support may reduce personal, social, academic, and career development difficulties. Psychology professionals can educate the faculty on trauma signs and symptoms to facilitate early detection. Guidelines to assist faculty recognize and assist students who are experiencing distress as a result of a tragic event are presented.
