Abstract
There is a great variance between the epistemic frames of different authors. This article deals only with modern philosophy. In respect to the subject, the variances concern its strength, the capability of self-knowledge, its substantiality, complexity and transparency. In respect to the object, the variances refer to the possibility of knowledge, The identity of the object (e.g., the body, experience, the phenomenon, Nature [in its particulars or as a whole] science as a body of knowledge, historical fieri, differing from logics), ways of access to objects, and finally language, which cannot reach the whole of reality. Substantial subjects and objects differ widely from dialectical and historical ones. For each philosopher, the author points out on which position he stands.
