Abstract

Recently the study of the first sexual experience turns out to be significant in the field of social psychology, because it is a determining factor in the development, satisfaction and commitment of the couple relationships (Harvey, Wenzel and Sprecher, 2004; Hendricks, 2004). On the other hand, the first sexual experience is one of the transitions of greater relevance in the development of the adult, representing an unforgettable memory. In Puerto Rico there are insufficient studies dedicated to the subject of the sexuality in heterosexual people. Considering this absence the present study has the purpose to explore the meaning of the first sexual experience in adult young people. The present study is exploratory-descriptive, with which it is expected to understand the experience of the first sexual relation. The outcomes of the study mainly demonstrate gender differences and similarities.
