Abstract

The evaluation of the social policies has acquired a lot of importance since the ends of the 20th century. This is a consequence of the most recent theories of public administration and administration of social programs. These theories or tendencies emphasize that the governments should evaluate the programs or social projects to know its effectiveness and efficiency. In answer to these tendencies, many countries have institutionalized formal processes of evaluation of the public management in general or of the politics, programs or social projects particularly. In this arricie is stimulated that social workers take advantage of this joint to promote that evaluation of social policies continue in our countries, but that these processes of evaluation consider not only the efficiency and the efficacy of policies, but social values as justice, equity and empowerment, as fundamental values of the profession and important values for the society. Besides, the article exposes five (5) specific recommendations to social workers interested in the theme to begin to work this aspect.
