Abstract

This article presents a literature review on the subject of metadata, specifically on the type of metadata used for the preservation of objects in libraries and digital repositories. It discusses the evolution of preservation metadata, its importance for librarians, archivists and data stewards, and its key role in ensuring the long-term preservation of digital documents. The article compares different perspectives on the function and role of preservation metadata and discusses various metadata schemes.
