Abstract

Starting from the theoretical work of Bajtín, I've tried to prove that René Marqués, in ;Carnaval afuera, carnaval adentro ;, counterposes the absurd of this type of theater with the acritical normality that this humanity lives. This puertorrican playwright presents a contrast through the use of space. The 'carnaval afuera' that manages the power, festers disorder and irrationality. The order in 'carnaval adentro', on the contrary, is singularized by authenticity, justice, and auto-determination. Written in 1960, in the chronotope of a Puerto Rico governed by intransigent patriarchal society, the protagonism of the two female leads, destabilizes the normality and reveals a dialogical relation with a diversity of speakers such as different sectors of the puertorrican society, all the way to ideological recalcitrant of the cuban exile of this time. These two women abandon their scope of sociable acceptable actions- the tight space that is argued between the kitchen and the marital bed- to assume a role that is in accordance with its humanity: the subject in the world. Yes, like Sartre, we think that conscience supposes action and intentionality; they conceive a space of power of this time to denounce its irrationality invested in reasonableness.
