Resumen

Estudios señalan que los jóvenes universitarios han sido los más afectados en el ámbito de la salud mental por la pandemia del COVID-19. Igualmente, se ha relacionado mayor incidencia en depresión, ansiedad, estrés y soledad en mujeres universitarias después de este periodo. Sin embargo, los estudios dirigidos en conocer el impacto de la pospandemia en la salud mental en jóvenes puertorriqueños son escasos. Considerando esta limitación, este estudio buscó evaluar el estado de la salud mental e identificar diferencias por sexo en el periodo pospandemia en una muestra de 872 estudiantes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Los participantes completaron una encuesta en línea, la cual recopiló información sobre las variables sociodemográfica e instrumentos para medir los niveles de depresión, ansiedad, estrés y soledad. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo asimismo un análisis multivariado de varianza para explorar diferencias entre hombres y mujeres en las escalas evaluadas. El análisis estadístico reveló efectos significativos del sexo en los niveles de depresión (p = .004), ansiedad (p < .001), estrés (p < .001) y soledad (p = .015). Las mujeres obtuvieron puntuaciones significativamente más altas en todas las escalas en comparación con los hombres.  Los resultados de este estudio no solo evidencian el impacto de la pospandemia en la salud mental de jóvenes universitarios, sino que subrayan la importancia de considerar las diferencias entre mujeres y hombres en la experiencia de la salud mental durante la pandemia.
