Abstract
History and literature share the written word as the vehicle to convey ideas.
While History builds a historical narration that strives to bring past events closer to us,
Literature materializes ideas and creativity. In the current essay, we present an analysis of
“Estercolero”, a historical novel by José Elías Levis, and how its pages present a portrait of
historical events related to hurricane San Ciriaco, giving us a glimpse of its consequences
in the everyday life of a town in our Island.
