Abstract

This document based research article describes some of the relevant perspectives that characterize the feminist approach in professional counseling. The feminist approach of recent insertion within the discipline of counseling has been considered a pioneering one. This article presents some of the basic concepts and theoretical principles of the feminist approach. The main objective is to contribute towards the understanding and practice of the feminist approach in counseling, particularly to those professionals who are truly interested in learning or incorporating this approach within their respective work scenarios.  To facilitate the discussion, the topic takes into consideration the historical background, principal trends in feminism, feminist principles that guide the counseling intervention process and techniques used within the application of the feminist approach.
