The COVID-19 pandemic impacted libraries of all types around the world, requiring library leaders to respond to rapidly shifting community and institutional needs. Library leaders had to make immediate changes because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their workflows and community offerings. Some of these changes will impact the library going forward. As a part of OCLC Research’s work in documenting how libraries as organizations operate, adapt, and evolve, the OCLC Research team met with global library leaders from 11 countries to discuss emerging library models in response to the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The research informing this briefing was gathered during the height of pandemic lockdowns from April to July 2020, capturing a moment in time for different types of libraries. Forced into unexpected shutdowns and other contingencies, libraries experienced an urgency for change that lowered barriers to innovation, shifted attitudes, and catalyzed action. The presentation will touch on their experiences during the pandemic and highlight the new and evolving library practices, offerings, policies, and collaborations and the leaders’ reflection on their long-term vision for libraries as a result of changing practices and environments. What they envision for their libraries moving forward might be similar to what you will experience too. Please join us to find out more about how library leaders demonstrated agility, cultivated and developed existing and new collaborations, expanded virtual experiences, and reimagined physical spaces for the transformation towards their New Model Library.
