Abstract
Using analysis of the flâneur / flâneuse, this essay studies the gothic short story «La extraña» (1922), by Dominican writer, Abigail Mejía. In this story, Mejía uses Gothic motifs to create a psychologically detailed main character without relying on female stereotypes, enabling her to transgressively enter the public space.
