Abstract
Critical views have considered Luis Rafael Sánchez‘s La importancia de llamarse Daniel Santos a novel. In her article, Vázquez argues that Sánchez creates a hybrid text, which is predominantly an essay. The clue lies in discovering the narrative superstructures (Van Dijk) that hide and apparently transform the structure of the essay which covers the central part of the text. The use of narrative superstructures and a tricky subtitle has misled readers and critics in their reception of the text as novel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
