Abstract

This article aims to study from a feminist perspective the behavior of Cecilia and Aurora, two characters taken from two novels: Manglar by Joaquín Gutiérrez and La ruta de la evasion by Yolanda Oreamuno. Both authors, from Costa Rica, wrote during the nineteen forties. This generation of writers is noted for introducing technical and thematic innovations in their texts. They turned their literature into one of rupture and transition, helping this to create the foundations of contemporary literature in the country. We used as a theoretical reference "Images of Woman", which focuses on a number of different women stereotypes in literature from a feminist point of view. We tried to analyze how the main characters of these novels project themselves and also how they finally overcome the traditional women images.
