Abstract
This article is devoted to the study of two Caribbean short stories: "Vellonera de sueños", written by the Dominican Luis Martín Gómez, and "Cuatro selecciones por una peseta" by Puerto Rican writers Ana Lydia Vega and Carmen Lugo Filippi, stressing the differences between these texts concerning the incorporation of the bolero. While Gómez's story is marked by a certain continuity with patriarchal schemes present in boleros, Vega's and Lugo Filippi's story satirizes these cultural components. Finally, the article speculates about the modesty, regarding erotic issues, that characterizes literature written in the Dominican Republic. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
