Abstract
I study the rhetoric of dedication during the Spanish Golden Age. Besides, I consider the dedication a very useful help to understand the book‘s meaning and the literary and socio-political context that it establishes. I have analyzed the Para todos dedications to show the relations of continuity that they keep with the poetic of dedications; but, also, to point out the novelty this literary form represents and how they conform to the wish of independence that the writer wants from his patrons. Pérez de Montalbán moves between the dependence to his patronage and the independence the writer could get due to the book market. He prefigures the modern author in his attitude and in his intentions. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
