Abstract
Starting from historical references to the personality of Saint Catherine, the doubts about her real existence and antagonistic figure to Hypatia of Alexandria, this article focuses on the characteristics of the traditional romance of Santa Catalina whose core rotates around the symbol of her martyrdom and holiness, the knives sprocket. It especially concerns the versions collected in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, including an appendix that reproduces all the versions released to date of both Caribbean countries as well as two unpublished texts from Cuba and Dominican Republic. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
