Abstract

This article intends to display similitudes between Friedrich Nietzsche's perspective on the epistemological fragility oflanguage and the underlying frames of thought in se ven poems of Jorge Luis Borges. Its aim is to demonstrate that both thinkers, from different points of view, can be considered as architects of uncertainty. This article employs the theoretical argurnents that J acques Derrida develops in "The White Mythology", where he discusses the importance of the metaphorical nature of language in philosophical texts and states that western philosophy pretends to situate itself in a privileged position by equating itself with reason. This investigation concludes that both Borges and Nietzsche refute the belief in the essential truths that western metaphysics search for, and that both thinkers refute any attempt to ratify an unequivocal truth through the use of an imperfect tool: language.
