Abstract
This article seeks to explore the importance given to the Virgin Mary in the novels “The Battle of the Virgins” (1993), by Rosario Ferré and “Our Lady of the Night” (2006), by Mayra Santos Febres. To this end, the concept of doubles is utilized to include the notion of carnival, disseminated by Mijaíl Bajtín in his text, “Popular Culture in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
