Abstract
Social learning emerges through interactions with other people and with the surrounding natural environment. This article focuses on a thematic analysis of the social and environmental learning that emerged in three cases of community gardens in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Three themes were generated from the analysis that reflects new knowledge: (1) agroecological and environmental conservation learnings, (2) community learnings, and (3) project management and personal skills learnings. The findings of the analysis highlight that the learning generated in the gardens contributes to the development of diverse thinking and focuses on developing learning for sustainability and individual and community resilience.
