Abstract
This article presents the transformations in military education of the armed forces of Spain
during the nineteenth century and the educational alternatives available to Puerto Rican military
officer candidates. Also in this article are analyzed the influence of the bourgeois discourse
of honor on military notions of honor and social prestzge.
