Abstract
The author, a promoter in the Southern Region of Puerto Rico of an initiative calling for a Society of Knowledge in the area, points to the two essential planetary urgencies: the development of a planetary political will and purpose, and the holistic development of intellect. These aims must be pursued in accordance with the real opportunities, which he calls as well as some other thinkers in Puerto Rico, Kairós. Trends observed in contemporary culture lead him to think that the spirit of the present times favors the pursuit of the second objective over the first one. Four quite coherent features of these trends are: an ongoing foundatios of homogenization of philosophical and scientific thought; the rising of an integrated informatics both in the technological and the theoretical approach; a stronger tendency to the integration of knowledge than to the integration of common human goals; thought becoming increasingly detached from particular cultural views.
