Abstract
Socorro Girón in her role as a poet only published a book entitled A la sombra de la ceiba (1959). It contains thirty-three poems that collect her deep feeling towards her hometown and to which she dedicates it: Ponce. She collects her life experiences at different stages of development and consciousness, honors her "architects of life", shows great sensitivity toward the beauty of her natural surroundings and expresses concern for the whereabouts of her country. Her fine verses, often philosophical-reflective in tone, show universal existential concerns (faith vs. rationality). A high poetic-aesthetic sense is evident when she wraps verses in silk and
organza robes to represent harsh realities that are part of human existence.
