Abstract
Socorro Girón was a Spanish professor at the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce. During the academic year 1974-1975, she had several students who became "hijos postizos" (sort of surrogate children). The essay collects the extracurricular experiences of his disciple Otto Sievens Irizarry. During visits to several towns such as Vieques, Utuado, Jayuya, Yauco, Guánica, and San Juan, the educator introduced her students to well-known Puerto Rican writers, historians, educators, and poets with the purpose of broadening their cultural horizons.
