Abstract
Is the need to rebuild life exclusive of old age? E. M. de Hostos established in his Diary that rebuilding through writing in youth is imperative to be able to move forward. Each day he evaluated a near past, as allowed by this literary genre, whose certainty that it would be read is evident in the polish of his creation. However, José Enrique García Oquendo, a young social worker, as poor as the young Hostos, but coming from the current public housing developments, proposes an autobiographical genre of his own called "transversación". Through this one he evaluates a slightly more remote past, his childhood and his youth, crystallizing a retrospection through several scarps: the anecdote, the poetry, the story, the interview and hermeneutical reflections as a social worker, crossed with performative intention.
