Abstract
This essay on René Marqués‘play La casa sin reloj aims to demonstrate that the playwright deconstructs the colonial and capitalist reality of Puerto Rico from the vantage point of the carnavalesque and the absurd in order to propel a dialogic relationship. The writer counterposes the oppression, the inequality and the dehumanizing of the colonial subject to the dramatic logic and order to unveil the absurdity inherent to the Archipelago‘s quotidian social disorganization and fragmentation. Furthermore, Marqués destabilizes the binary structure of gender to expose it as a patriarchal construct.
