Abstract

The phenomenon of the obesity involves people from all ages. It have been documented that children and young people with obesity are exposed to vulnerability and stigmatization that affects their biopsychosocial development. In the present article, childhood obesity is examined on the basis of statistics, research and analysis of a suggested theoretical frame to guide the child body as a subject of study for the social work discipline. The social theories of Ecological Perspective of Bronfebrenner and the Theory of Cognitive Development of Jean Piaget are taken into consideration to present reflections on childhood, obesity and the development of concrete operations, and to pinpoint final remarks to improve the interest and confirm the importance of the contribution of social workers for the prevention of the obesity in this population group and the creation of spaces of solidarity and equity, as required in school scenarios.
