Abstract

The closeness between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic produce a passage of undocumented migrants who enter to the Island in search of "the American dream" or economic improvement. This is not the only dream, when the rejection of sexual identities in a sector that migrates from this country, joins the human condition which shows us another color of the social phenomenon of migration. In particular this article presents a summary of some of the results of a qualitative research conducted with Dominican gay men living in Santo Domingo, and Dominican gay men that had already migrated to Puerto Rico.The purpose of itwas to explore the reality of a group of Dominican gay men based in Puerto Rico, focusing on motivating elements for emigration and to explore the imagination of a group of gay men living in the city of Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic about the intentions, desires, and possibilities to migrate to Puerto Rico. We also link to the analysis of the findings issues resulting from the stories that reveals experiences that threaten human rights and facilitate intemalized oppression, which point to the vulnerability of subjugation and impotence produced by the phenomenon of the sexual migration in a globalized world.
