Abstract

Social work occurs in various settings and can generate public opinion. Early in the history of the profession in Puerto Rico, social workers began working in schools. The main objective of this study was to identify the opinion of a group of members of the Teachers' Federation of Puerto Rico about social workers. The sample consisted of 74 participants. The majority held a positive view toward social workers. Of the sample, 35 percent did not think social workers should participate in public policy processes. A direct relationship between their experience with social workers and their opinión towards them was found. An analysis of these results and our recommendations are included.
