Librarian 4.0: Data management in the digital transformation of information spaces

Abstract

Because information is an indispensable element driving key business and administrative decisions in institutions, information professionals play a decisive role in ensuring that it is rigorously described, stored and maintained in an accessible manner in accordance with institutional needs whilst adhering to existing legal requirements and privacy concerns. 

Digital transformation, vigorously accelerated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, is gradually becoming a mainstay of institutions who have been compelled to look for alternatives to their regular processes. These spaces have since moved to virtual landscapes, leveraging advantages provided by information technologies. In conjunction with wider information governance initiatives, opportunities for further digital transformation bolster resilience to interruptions in operations by enabling remote participation and access to information.

As valuable business assets, documents and records are essential in supporting everyday activities, so secure and timely access to information, even from remote locations, has become an integral part of the administrative milieu in certain sectors. This workshop will explore the case of an International Insurer’s Document/Data Management Program. The participants will have the opportunity to learn the role importance in safeguarding sensitive information, enhancing access and managing information explosion through the implementation of recordkeeping principles and information technologies as a means of furthering collaboration and bolstering accountability, and describe the challenges and opportunities of adopting resiliency measures as part of ongoing digital transformation initiatives throughout the pandemic.
