Abstract
This paper addresses the innovative and creative leadership in academic libraries in Puerto Rico. The concepts of leadership, innovation and creativity are defined. Through a literature review of previous experiences on the issue of leadership in Puerto Rico are collected. The development of culture of innovation and the barriers it is also discussed. Through a questionnaire, opinions are gathered from a sample of academic librarians at several higher education institutions in Puerto Rico to learn about their perspectives on leadership and the innovative and creative development of the information professional. Although exercise is limited, findings are expected to help create a framework for processes that foster innovation within the context of leadership played by the Puerto Rican information professional.
