Reflection on the dark side of intellectual property: threats to access to information

Abstract

The new information and communication technologies they have the ability to enhance the spread of information and contribute to preserve the legitimate use of information goods like never before. However, the pressure from large corporations and the publishing and record industry, is transforming intellectual property regulations and the law of copyright into a system that favors the commodification and privatization of information and threatens public access to information, and therefore, exchange of information, academic debate, research and the right of citizens to be well informed.
