Abstract

The essay studies the origin and development of the Department of Physical Sciences (DCIFI) of the Faculty of General Studies of the Río Piedras campus. In this heuristic and hermeneutic exploration -based on documentary sources and unpublished academic archives- the researcher establishes the academic foundations of this unit, its statutory headings and challenges and aspirations of a procedure are outlined, in harmony with the cutting-edge discussions on education. general and its forms of execution in an integrated university curriculum. The essay highlights the figures of Félix Cernuschi, Facundo Bueso, and Amador Cobas in this milestone that takes us from 1949 (foundation of the DCIFI) to the middle of the fifties with the identity curricular pronouncements that characterized the DCIFI.
