Abstract
The Monster (1878) by Puerto Rican writer Manuel Zeno Gandía seems to have gained little attention from literary criticism, as has happened with other works by this prolific author. In this article, we propose an analysis of the novel using a series of theoretical elements, such as literary teratology and visual studies to construct and deconstruct the monstrous image of Claudio, the main character on Zeno Gandía‘s novel, halfway between the naturalist and romantic monster. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
